I got a new keyboard. Alternatively, novelty is my thing.
Title. I got a Logitech POP Keys keyboard (in purple, obviously) as a replacement for my 7-year-old Ducky One TKL. Why did I go for it? It's purple, it's wireless, and... me likey shiny new thing. Seriously. I am always drawn to new shiny thing. Could be autism. Could be ADHD. I have both so they probably ganged up on me as they tend to do.
One side effect of being neurospicy is that once I find a new thing I think I love, I kinda hyperfixate on it. That only lasts a few days, maybe 2 weeks. Then it's back to looking for that next high. It's a toxic spiral but I am hopelessly trapped in it, though sometimes it ends up being an amazing thing. My first major hyperfixation was tech, for instance. We had a speech assignment in the 6th grade, and I did mine on how to build a PC. I went waaaaaaaay over the allotted 5 minutes; the teacher cut me off at 10. Sorry, Ms. Hudson. Blame the ADHD. The good thing to come from all that though was the knowledge needed to build my own PC, which I was finally able to do right before the pandemic. I still use that PC today, though I've replaced the graphics card, CPU, and one hard drive. After several years of being hooked on all things tech, that fire kinda died out. I still keep up with some of it, but I largely prefer my shit to just work. I have an iPhone for a reason.
That's another cycle I'm stuck in: phone ecosystem hopping. My first phone was the LG Cherry Chocolate, released in the late 2000s. I wouldn't have my first smartphone until Christmas 2011. That smartphone was the venerable Droid Razr MAXX. I loved that thing. I used that phone to learn the Android rooting process, which I then used to dualboot Cyanogenmod and stock Android. I don't suggest dualbooting a smartphone though; that phone didn't last long after that. I had several more Android devices before I finally settled on an iPhone 6s Plus. I love that phone too... until I broke it. I tossed it around enough that it stopped charging past 5% and the screen was separating from the body. Sorry, mom; I shoulda known better. I went back to Android with a Google Pixel XL and then had a few more Androids until I ended up where I am now with a purple iPhone 14 Plus. It's very much "ooo shiny" but I think I'm here to stay this time. And yes I'm part of the reason mini smartphones went extinct, and for that I'm sorry.
This hyperfixation cycle applies to tons of things, though. Baking, crocheting, content creation, even writing. I seriously wish I could break the cycle, but it's a rather tall ask when I'm wired this way. Maybe someday I'll break it like I did my first iPhone... A gal can dream...
